July 6th - July 13th, 2019

This will be the Troops second time to the Beautiful Camp Raven Knob in North Carolina!

SCOUTS
  • Scouts TO-DO List - This is your TO-DO list so that you will Be Prepared.   Print it out (as well as the other documents below).  Don't just try to read things on your phone, print it out so you can organize better and bring it with you on the trip.
    1. Information Sheet - Print read it several times, refer to it, and put a copy of it in paperwork you'll bring on the trip.
    2. Read this first, it has a summary of the whole trip.
    3. Permission Form - This is for you to print out and with your parents, fill it out and have them sign.  You need to turn this in on at the Friday Night drop-off.
    4. Travel Agenda - Look over this and familiarize yourself with where we're going and when.  Print a copy of it and bring it with you in your Car Bag
    5. Camp Map - You need to print a few copies of this, and pack one in your car bag (for when we get there) and pack more in your stuff for camp to take around with you.  Note: We are at the KNOB VIEW campsite (click to view it).
    6. Merit Badge Times & Costs - Look here to see costs of merit badges (scout must supply)
    7. Merit Badge PrerequisitesIf you want to return from camp with completed merit badges, you must complete the prerequisites.   Otherwise, you need to do it when you get back, and get it approved by the Scoutmaster.  Typically this gets dropped and merit badges hardly ever get completed post-camp, so do it now!   If you have questions, ask the Scoutmaster.
    8. Packing List - This is a THREE page document.  Print it out, and check things off when you pack them.  If you UNPACK them (like a pillow to sleep on)... UNMARK them so you can re-check before you leave.  Don't leave anything on your bed or in the fridge.  The 2nd page is HOW to pack your stuff.  It's very important for you to group what you packed as laid out on page two.  Page 3 talks about using two tubs .vs. foot lockers.
    9. Camp Cost Sheet - Look over this and work with your parents to gather $ you need for the trip.  Put it in envelopes for safe-keeping as directed.  Ask your parents what you can do to help earn your spending money.
    • OTHER INFORMATION - Here's helpful (but not neccessary) information you could look over to better know about Raven Knob:
    • HELPFUL HINTS
      • We will have down time, so, bring card games, board games, etc.   You may bring Sports equipment as well. We have plenty of room on this trip
      • Some Scouts like to bring a small table to put up in their tent.  Makes it easier to organize and find stuff.
      • Some Scouts like to bring a floor mat and even a small carpet for inside of their tent.
      • Don't forget backup batteries for your tent-light, you may leave it on one time.
      • On Friday night at the bag drop, we'll have Merit Badge books from the Troop to check-out.  You can also buy at the Scout Shop, or at camp (bring money for that though).   Books are not required, but highly suggested and makes them much easier.
      • Consider packing a new shirt/socks/undies in a 2 1/2 gallon bag for each day (as the packing list states).  It will really help you organize your container(s)
      • See "Two Tubs .vs. One Foot Locker" below
    PARENTS
    • Information Sheet - Read this First, it has a summary of all information for the trip
    • Parent Notes - This is parent-specific information about the trip.
    • Required Forms - These are the required forms to be handed in NLT the "Bag & Other Drop-Off" on Friday:
      • Troop Permission Form
      • Raven Knob Release Form - Please sign and either print and turn in, or scan & send to the Scoutmaster
      • Medical Form Cover Sheet - Raven Knob asks that all campers have this form filled out & turned in along with their Medical Forms and Insurance Card Copies.
      • Medical Forms, Parts A, B, and C - We need Medical forms Part A, B, and C for all Scouts.   Parts A&B are filled out and signed by parents and must be turned in for this year by ALL scouts.   Part C must be completed and signed by a physician.   If you have Part C already from last year that was completed on or after July 1st, 2018, then is is good, and there is no need to get a new Part C.
      • Insurance Cards - As notated in Part B of the medical form, you must make copies of your insurance card(s) and attach to the medical form packet.
    • HELPFUL HINTS
      • If you'd like to sit down with the Scoutmaster (or you and your son), please make an appointment HERE, or contact directly to make other (sooner) time arrangements.
      • Please let your scout do their jobs listed above whilst backing them up and double-checking.
      • See "Two Tubs .vs. One Foot Locker" below

Two Tubs .vs. One Foot Locker

All Items Listed in the Information Sheet under "#3 - Camp Gear", must be carried in either two tubs or one foot locker.   Duffel bags lead to dis-organization on a long summer camp, and back packs have no place to hang and are also hard to organize.  Suit cases aren't well suited for being in an outside tent and typically do not hold as much as the tubs or foot locker.

Anything  you use must be under 18" (cot height with no sagging).   Here are the differences between the foot locker .vs. the two tubs options:

    • Two Tubs - 116 Quarts (58 each) - around $10 for both at WalMart - CLICK HERE FOR EXAMPLE (they sell individually at store)
      • Easier to organize in 2 containers
      • Lids come off without pulling out from under cot
      • Allows tent mates to access tubs simultaneously
      • Use a bungee cord or rope to hold lids down during travel.
      • One Foot Locker - 98 Quarts - around $35 at WalMart - CLICK FOR EXAMPLE (they sell individually at store)
        • More robust (for future use)
        • Lockable (although we ask that they not be locked if possible)
        • Harder to organize and access under cot and with tent mates
