2014-11-21 Rails to Trails Bike Trek Campout

November 21st-23rd, 2014

This will be a very fun bike hike on the beautiful West Orange Trail in Apopka, FL.  This is a 22 mile bike trek through the woods and through the city.   We will be camping in the group site at Wekeiwa Springs State Park, and will enjoy swimming and snorkeling in the springs on Sunday.







ATTEND THIS CAMPOUT SCOUTS (NOT PARENTS) MUST DO THE FOLLOWING 6 STEPS:
  1. INFORMATION SHEET  - Print it, READ IT, and put it in your Troop notebook  Use it to prepare/packfor the trip.   Click to view, and then hover near the bottom to save/print OR to download go to the bottom of this page and click the down arrow beside the sheet.
  2. PARENT PERMISSION FORM - Print it, have your parents sign it, and bring it to the Troop Meeting with payment on DUE THIS MONDAY, October 27th!
  3. West Orange Trail Map - Scouts are REQUIRED to Print this Map, and bring it with you on the trek.
  4. Wekeiwa Springs State Park - Click on the link and explore where you're going.
  5. Other Information - We ask that all Scouts click on the link.
  6. AGENDA - Once the SPL sends out the Agenda, print it and bring it on the Campout.

TUNE-UP/INSPECTION & TRAINING DAY -  We will be having an inspection/tune-up & training session on Saturday, November 8.  The activity will be held at Faith Fellowship Church in the parking loop by the Troop Trailer. The schedule will be:
  • 8:00–9:00am: Personal & private training for those working on bike riding skills.
  • 9:00–10:30am: Bike Inspections, Repairs & Tune-Ups
BIKE DROP OFF - All Bikes must be dropped of on Thursday, November 20th, between 7:00 and 8:00 pm. If there is any reason you cannot make the bike drop-off, please contact Mr. Rogers right away to make special arrangements.

WHAT TO PACK
  • Carefully read the Information Sheet - It has special Packing Information On It!
  • Download & Create your own Packing List from HERE and use it, or use the generic one HERE.
  • Look in your Scout Book for packing ideas as well.
  • Of special note for this campout:
    • Water Bottle for the bike (must attache or bring a small backpack to carry)
    • Whistle (required)
    • Bike checked out and in good repair, able to make a 22 mile trek.
    • Swim Suit & Towel (Swim suit must be BSA shorts/suit, or at a minimum an earth toned suit/shorts)
