June 4th-5th, 2022
Scouts will use a bamboo rafts they've built to travel to South Grange Island in the Indian River, in Grant. There, they will live off of little more than their 1 gallon survival kits for the weekend, returning to their launch point on Sunday late afternoon. Scouts will be divided into two "tribes", which will compete with one another for food and tool rewards.
We will be camping on South Grange Island, which is a spoil island (BC48) in the Indian River just off of US-1 in Grant. We will be launching from and returning to “Fishermans Landing” in Grant.
This is a survival campout. Each scout will be allowed to bring supplies that fit into a one-gallon container (that we will distribute), plus a few more things (detailed below). The idea is for scout to pack smartly and to camp as comfortably as possible in the wild, while living off the land. Scouts will be divided into “tribes” and will compete for tool and food supplies. In addition to (the small amount) of particular food allowed in the one-gallon container, and any food salvaged or caught, there will be food supplied during competitions as well as other supplies as needed. Water will be supplied.
