Troop – When a US Navy vessel is built, before it goes into official duty it undergoes a Sea Trial or "Shakedown Cruise" where all of its systems are tested to determine if it can perform as needed and expected. We are going to have a Troop "Shakedown Hike" this coming Wednesday evening, 9/21, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. We will meet in the south parking lot of the River Run Christian Church (1660 Croton Rd, Melbourne) just south of Aurora Rd. We will be taking an easy 2 mile hike giving us an opportunity to "shakedown" our packs, gear, boots, make sure everything fits well and go over some general hike information which will serve as good preparation for our upcoming Alexander Springs hike. Be sure to bring enough water for the hike and a pack weight of 20-30 lbs. or 25% of your body weight. You can either do a real practice pack which you would use for our upcoming hike or gather items as needed to hit your target pack weight. This hike is suggested for all but required for scouts who have not been on our Troop Alexander Springs Hike before.
